URGENT CONDEMNATION: A.O.H.R Warns Against Transforming Cities into Military Garrisons and Demands International Accountability for the Iranian Regime

Ahwaz – March 24, 2026

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) expresses its strongest condemnation and profound indignation regarding the criminal practices perpetrated by the Iranian security and military authorities in the Ahwaz region. These actions represent an unprecedented disregard for the lives of unarmed civilians, who are being used as "human shields."

Human Shields and Missile Launchers: A Flagrant Violation of International Law

According to documented field reports, military forces belonging to the Iranian regime have deployed missile launchers and military batteries within civilian areas, including hospitals, schools, mosques, and densely populated residential neighborhoods. The organization emphasizes that these actions constitute a grave breach of:

Article 51, Paragraph 7 of the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 1949: which explicitly prohibits "directing the movement of the civilian population or individual civilians in order to attempt to shield military objectives from attacks or to shield military operations."

The transformation of medical and educational facilities into military garrisons is a full-fledged crime that places the Iranian regime under international criminal liability for the deliberate endangerment of millions of civilians.

Fabricated Charges and the Threat of Imminent Execution

Parallel to this military escalation, authorities continue a fierce campaign of arbitrary arrests against activists, most recently the young man Ismail Bawi and detainees from the city of Hoveyzeh, along with others accused of communicating with Ahwazi liberation movements in exile. The organization reveals that these fabricated security charges are intended to pave the way for death sentences, which violates:

Article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: which guarantees the right of every individual to a "fair and public hearing by a competent, independent and impartial tribunal" and prohibits the extraction of forced confessions.

Demand for International Legal Accountability

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) calls upon the international community, led by the UN Security Council and the United Nations, to:

  1. Legal Accountability: Activate international prosecution mechanisms against those responsible for deploying weaponry in civilian areas.

  2. Urgent Intervention: Dispatch international inspection committees to compel Iran to immediately remove military platforms from residential neighborhoods and vital infrastructure.

  3. Protecting Activists: Intervene immediately to halt the sham trials faced by Ahwazi activists and ensure their protection from the risk of imminent execution.

A.O.H.R warns that international inaction toward these documented violations grants the Iranian regime a green light to continue its policy of systematic oppression against the Ahwazi people.
