Statement of Ahwazi Activists’ Protest in Front of the Danish Embassy November 1, 2024

In support of the Ahwazi detainees facing a hearing before the Supreme Court due to charges stemming from their activism against the Iranian occupation regime.

We, the Ahwazi activists, gather here today to reaffirm our unwavering solidarity and support for the Ahwazi detainees who were arrested for their legitimate struggle against the Iranian occupation regime. This protest is not merely an expression of condemnation; it is a voice for truth and a call for justice. It also aims to enhance the image of the Ahwazi cause in the eyes of the European public.

The Ahwazi cause is a fair and just one. Iran occupied our land a century ago, and the Ahwazi people continue to pay the price of this occupation. Our struggle against the occupation is a legitimate right based on international laws and human norms that guarantee peoples’ rights to self-determination. We affirm that resisting the Iranian occupation is a national duty that aligns with values of justice and human rights, and we will not waver in demanding our rights, no matter the challenges.

Our gathering today is not only in support of the detainees but also a strategic step to improve the perception of the Ahwazi cause in the international arena. We believe that European public opinion plays an important role in supporting just causes, and hence the importance of making them aware of the legitimacy of the Ahwazi cause and the violations and assaults our people suffer under the Iranian occupation regime. Through this protest, we seek to convey a clear message: the Ahwazi people demand their basic rights and freedom of expression.

This demonstration is part of our ongoing political effort to inform the world about the justice of the Ahwazi cause. We strive to create a positive change in the international community’s perception of our cause, and we see this as requiring cooperation and coordination with humanitarian and political organizations to help amplify our voice to decision-making circles in Europe. Raising awareness of the Ahwazi cause among the European public is an essential step toward gaining the necessary support for our rights.

The Ahwazi people have a long history of struggle and sacrifice. We draw our strength and determination from the spirit of resistance that resides within us and from our deep belief in our right to regain our dignity and sovereignty over our homeland, Al-Ahwaz. Every sacrifice we make in pursuit of our national goals reflects our commitment and determination to continue the struggle until we achieve freedom.

As political, media, and human rights activists, we believe that we have the full right to express our views and play our role in informing the world of our cause. This right is guaranteed to us by international law, and it obligates us to continue working on all fronts. Raising awareness of the Ahwazi cause globally and seeking to internationalize it is a goal we all work toward, and we must use every available means to achieve this objective.

Today, we stand in this demonstration in support of the political detainees who were arrested for their legitimate activism against the Iranian occupation regime. Their arrest is a blatant violation of their basic rights and an assault on freedom of expression and political activity. Let us remember that these activists fulfilled their national duty, and we must raise our voices in support of them and their right to freedom of expression.

We also call upon the international community to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its crimes and terrorism and to bring its leaders to international justice. The Iranian occupation regime has committed numerous gross human rights violations, and they must bear responsibility before the international community.

We are here to reaffirm a set of urgent demands that we ask the Danish government and court to consider:

• Immediate Release of the Detainees: We call for the immediate release of the detainees: Mr. Habib Jaber, President of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz; Mr. Nasser Jaber, Head of Public Relations in the movement; and Mr. Yaqub Hur, Head of the Media Office in the movement. This demand comes in the spirit of respect for human rights and the application of justice.
• Dropping the Charges: We demand that all charges against them be dropped, as these charges lack any legal basis. Instead, the accusations and condemnation should be directed at the Iranian occupation regime for its crimes and terrorism against humanity.
• Residence Guarantee: We ask the Danish government to ensure the right of the detainees to residency and that their citizenships not be revoked, as this right is part of their fundamental human rights.
• Media Visibility: Detainees should be granted the right to media appearances to improve their image and raise awareness of the Ahwazi cause through various media outlets. This will help inform the Danish people and free peoples of the world about the justice of our cause and our people’s struggle.

We stand here today to voice our support and to affirm our solidarity with all Ahwazi detainees. We urge the Danish government to take these demands into consideration, and we thank it for allowing us to express our demands and receive our message. We believe that Denmark will always stand for human rights and justice.
