Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) Warns Against the Militarization of Civilian Facilities and Residential Areas by the IRGC

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) expresses its grave concern and strong condemnation regarding the recent actions taken by Iranian authorities, involving the conversion of hundreds of civilian facilities—including schools, mosques, and private homes—into alternative military headquarters for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). These dangerous escalations follow aerial strikes on official military sites, as IRGC forces deliberately infiltrate densely populated urban areas in an attempt to seek refuge among civilians, effectively using them as human shields to protect military personnel and equipment from future air and missile strikes.

The A.O.H.R emphasizes that the mobilization of military units within residential neighborhoods and the transformation of houses of worship and educational institutions into command-and-control centers constitute a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Conventions, which strictly prohibit the militarization of civilian objects. This conduct not only places the lives of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children, in immediate peril but also exposes entire cities to catastrophic consequences in the event of armed conflict. Consequently, the Iranian regime bears full legal and moral responsibility for any loss of life resulting from these systematic policies that show a reckless disregard for human life.

Accordingly, the Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) issues this urgent appeal to the international community, United Nations bodies, and global human rights organizations, calling for immediate intervention to pressure Tehran to evacuate all military presence from residential and educational areas and to dismantle newly established barracks within city centers. Furthermore, the Organization calls for the deployment of international fact-finding missions to document these violations, which threaten social security and peace, and demands that necessary protection be provided to Ahwazi civilians and others to prevent their cities from being turned into open conflict zones and clandestine military bases.
